JACKSONVILLE CHURCH THREATENS MEMBER WITH MAKING
HER SEX LIFE PUBLIC
News 4 in Jacksonville, FL reports that a
divorced woman is claiming that her former church has threatened
to “go public with her sins” and tell the congregation about her
sexual relationship with her new boyfriend.
Rebecca Hancock says that pressure from the Grace
Community Church over her sex life forced her to leave the
congregation. However, she claims that she later received a
letter from the church’s elders telling her that the church
plans to make her sex life public.
“I’m basically run out. I’m the church harlot,”
said the 49-year-old ex-church member. “Because I have a
boyfriend that I’m involved with– to not be married to that
person is a sin.”
The letter that the church sent to Hancock
explained that due to her refusal to end the sexual relationship
with her boyfriend– “you leave us with no other choice but to
carry out the commands of the Lord Jesus Christ” … “In
accordance with Matthew 18:17 we intend to ‘tell it to the
church.’”
Though Dr. T. Scott Christmas, the pastor Grace
Community Church, declined to comment on the story, a number of
other pastors told News 4 that speaking of the sins of church
members to the rest of the congregation is not an unusual
practice.
Though Hancock feels betrayed by her former
church, she says that the situation has not had an effect on her
faith and relationship with God. “I am a Christian, and that
will never change,” said Hancock. “My relationship with Jesus
has to do with me and Jesus, and he knows my heart.”
