Drive-Through Sex Toy Shop Set to Open

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —
An Alabama adult store claiming it’s the first in the country to
offer a drive-up window selling sex toys is set to open this
weekend.
According to reports, owner Sherri Williams said
her Pleasures retail store is offering the car service in part
to decrease the stigma normally associated with adult stores.
"The real essence of what I'm trying to get
across is adult stores don't have to be hidden in back alleys.
Obviously we wouldn't be doing as well as we are if no one
enjoyed shopping here,” Williams said.
The one stop romance shop is located in a former
bank building and provides three drive-through lanes and offers
a menu of toys, lubricants, stimulants all sold in plain, brown
paper bags.
The complex will also provide The Intimacy
Clinic, offering weekly seminars, marriage counseling and
complimentary condoms.
In 2007 Williams' store captured the national
spotlight when it challenged a state ban on sex toys claiming it
violated the constitutional right to privacy. The case
ultimately reached the Supreme Court. But Alabama’s ban has a
medical loophole that allows residents to buy sex toys
prescribed by a doctor.
Customers must fill out a detailed form citing
their health reasons for buying the sex products and can only
buy the items if the reason is considered "a bona fide medical,
scientific, educational, legislative, judicial or law
enforcement purpose."
