ADAM & EVE CELEBRATES ANOTHER YEAR OF CHARITABLE GIVING

Adam & Eve, America’s number one source for all things erotic, is cementing its reputation as a philanthropic neighbor by continuing an abundance of charitable donations. At year end 2008, Adam & Eve had given almost 100 checks to more than 75 different organizations, most of them locally based in Orange County, NC, or the surrounding areas. The benefactors included major groups like the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes, but also many area high schools, churches, environmental initiatives and health organizations.

Adam & Eve has been known for years for its involvement with the community, as well as being a caring employer and citizen group. A large number of the benefactors are organizations that directly affect employees.  In addition, when employees contribute to company-sponsored charitable causes, the company matches the amount raised.

Tom Underwood, the head of the Human Resources department explains, “Some of our giving is industry-related, such as causes that defend freedom of speech.  Some of our giving is health-related … research for AIDS, cancer and children’s illnesses.  Some of our giving is directed at social behavior, such as domestic violence and planned parenthood.  But most of our giving is to local causes that are being led by civic clubs, schools, churches and other organizations.  We feel the need to focus our giving on the local community first.”

Gina Phelps, a member of the internal volunteer committee adds, “How many companies will let their employees decide who and where we give? Adam & Eve has a really big heart only because its employees do, which is why we have been so successful in showing it to the community we work in. It makes me proud to work here.”
