Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the porn parodies show no signs of slowing down

For most of us porn fans, we can remember a time when television actually produced quality half-hour sitcoms and hour-long dramas. It wasn’t all this reality crap that makes up a huge part of today’s television. There was nothing like tuning into your favorite television family for a half hour to laugh or a police drama to keep you in suspense for an hour. With these shows, you also had the opportunity to see hot girls, which led to the fantasies of many young boys (and, I am sure girls, as well) back in the day.

I mean, come on, who didn’t fantasize about making out or fucking Marcia Brady or getting your rocks off to Denise Huxtable? And “The Facts of Life,” well that was a lesbian orgy waiting to happen. If you were on a stranded island with Tina Louise and Dawn Wells (better known as Ginger and Mary Ann), don’t you think there would be some fucking going on behind the coconut trees?

Even though spoofs have been in the industry for years now, recently, the porn industry has capitalized on such fantasies by flooding the market with what is affectionately called “porn parodies.” These films are big sellers and there is no sign of them slowing down. With such parodies as The Brady Bunch, Munsters, Bewitched and many more, the quintessential adult film fan can sit back in their easy chair and live out all their dirty television fantasies.

“The industry has always done parodies,” says Paul Fishbein, President of AVN. “After a while, people just traded off names of mainstream movies and TV shows where the adult films had nothing to do with the original. So, the trend sort of faded away. With this new crop, people are putting such creativity into the projects, and they are selling well because obviously the consumer likes them.”

Director Will Ryder (Britney Rears, Not Bewitched XXX, Not the Brady’s XXX et al.) added, “They will only go as far as high quality allows.  The problem is that you have a bunch of companies jumping on the bandwagon making inferior products and that can only cause confusion in the marketplace.”

It’s a win/win situation for the porn fans, because they get to see some of their favorite sex stars playing some of their favorite television stars. But, how is it for the porn performers playing these roles?

“I loved playing Marcia Brady,” Hillary Scott said. “I loved the show and the parody remakes from the 90s. Out of all the things I’ve done in porn, I think most people get a kick out watching me playing Marcia the most.”

Ashlynn Brooke, who is in The Office, a spoof from New Sensations added, “It was very interesting playing someone I watch on TV.  Because no matter what, you're obviously not them and it's hard to portray the character the same way that they do.  All you can do is your best and hope you do it the justice that it deserves.”

On her role in Not the Brady’s XXX sequel, Teagan Presley took it a bit more seriously, “As an actress, it makes it tougher when you have a role that so many people are familiar with. You really have to come much closer to imitation than a performance.  So, when I approached both my role in Brady’s as Marcia and Bewitched as Tabitha, I just tried to make them both my own.  Tabitha was easier, since no one had seen her, as an 18-year-old girl.  I am not a huge fan of old TV shows period. So for Marcia, I just tried to be as much the bubbly teenage cheerleader as possible.”

With this type of porn films getting mainstream notoriety, the titles and the girls have reached an audience that normally might not watch, or even buy porn. And with the entire buzz, it makes you wonder if the original characters of these shows know about the porn version. And if so, have they contacted the performers playing them.

“Most of the actors from the original Brady Bunch have had good things to say about it,” Aurora Snow said. Hillary Scott added of the Brady’s spoof, “Maureen McCormick and I were interviewed by The Insider on CBS. She said Not the Brady's XXX sounded fun and she would probably watch it.”

For Ashlynn Brooke, she had a close encounter with an Office cast member, but it didn’t pan out. “I actually ran into Steve Carrel at the mall one time, but didn't get to ‘meet meet’ him. I'd like to meet BJ Novak, one of the writers, actually.”

For director, Will Ryder, he has talked with some of the people who were in the original television series he has spoofed. “Yes, we have heard from a number of actors and the response has been mixed.  Christopher Knight of the Brady Bunch thought it was flattering that we would do a parody of the show. He actually wondered what took the porn world so long to do this lampooning.”

These films have gotten a lot of acclaim along the way, and some have lived up to the hype while others haven’t. Either way, these parodies are fun and bring a different dynamic to the porn fans.

“They’re fun and not like everything else on the market,” Fishbein said. “Everybody puts out MILF movies. Everyone has an anal line, gonzo and amateur movies. But these parodies manage to titillate and entertain, when they're done well and there aren't a lot of new ones available because they actually cost money to produce.”

Ryder added, “This is a piece of Americana and the entire concept of parody brings up mostly happy memories of a time gone by.”

For all the praise and excitement of the recent porn parodies, there are also the people who find them ridiculous. Some people say it's a lack of imagination to make movies like this.

“I feel the opposite,” Fishbein said. “It takes imagination to take a proven popular concept and add sex to it. Who amongst us who grew up in the 60s didn't talk about who we'd rather fuck on Gilligan's Island...Ginger or Mary Ann? If the concept works, adding sex makes it interesting.”

No matter if you love them or hate them, porn parodies are part of the industry and have cemented their positions with these recent television spoofs. The only question now is what television show is next?

“I like the idea of a spoof of The Office, and kinky co-workers getting it,” on says Hillary Scott. “I remember working in an office and always fantasizing about taking someone in the stockroom and blowing them.”

Aurora Snow added, “I'd love to see I Love Lucy made into a porn movie. I could just imagine how much trouble Lucy would get into...and I'd really love to play her!”

As for Teagan Presley, she would like to take it to the next level with grandmas spoofing the Golden Girls. “I want to play Bea Arthur's character.  I think it would be hilarious to have a group of young hot actresses play Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia, with old people prosthetic makeup, but young, rocking bodies.”
