Lorelei Lee – keeping her
all tied up
By
Troy Michael
Lorelei
Lee may have grown up in upstate New York but at one point in
time she called New York, Massachusetts, Arizona, and California
home. However it wasn’t until she found the fetish and bondage
scene in San Francisco that she truly found herself.
This
26-year-old blonde has recently expanded from her work for
hardcore fetish sites as Kink.com and Waterbondage.com and
parlayed that into an up and coming adult film career.
Since she
arrived in 2006, Lorelei has made over 50 films - most of them
revolving around rough sex and bondage like Belladonna’s Fetish
Fanatic 5 and Fucking Girls 4. Also Bitchcraft, Gang Bang My
Face, Service Animals 24 from Evil Angel Productions along with
Hardcore Training 6 (Red Light District) and Reform School Girls
(Wicked Pictures) have been big hits for the porn star.
On a
steamy summer day I got to talk with this well-educated porn
starlet about Marilyn Monroe, her love for BDSM and being a
barista at a coffee shop.
Since you moved
around a lot, how was your childhood?
As a
teenager I was considered “promiscuous.” I was the girl with the
“reputation” in high school. My mother was always very
straightforward with me about sex and always answered my
questions honestly. She always told me I was the only one who
could make the right decisions for me. I never felt like the
sex I had as a teenager was “bad” or “wrong,” but I had fights
about this with my more conservative friends.
Since going
into the adult business both in fetish work and now with adult
films, how has your mom and friends supported you?
Now, I
have an amazing group of friends who are incredibly supportive.
My family is slowly becoming more comfortable with my job. My
brother is really great about it – although it took him awhile.
My mother still doesn’t like to talk about my job, but it’s
becoming easier for her too.
Your name is
interesting and I am sure gets pronounced and misspelled a lot.
Where did you come up with the name Lorelei Lee? Isn’t that from
a 1953 Marilyn Monroe movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?
Yes it is
actually. I’m a big Marilyn Monroe fan. Lorelei is also the
name of a Rhine maiden who lured sailors to their death with her
singing, according to German legend. When I first started
working in fetish, five years ago, I wanted to name myself after
something beautiful and dangerous. I was almost named Tamora or
Lavinia from Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, but both of those
women are killed at the end of the play, which wasn’t the legacy
I was looking for.
With your look
and demeanor you remind me of a pin up star from the Betty Paige
era. Is that an erotic art you are into?
When I was
19, I had a boyfriend who was really into Alberto Vargas’
paintings. We had gorgeous prints hanging up around our
apartment. There’s something about the decadence of a curvy
woman, in combination with the repressed promise of 1940’s
cheesecake style that is powerfully sexy.
Now that you
have moved into making adult films, how do you handle the gossip
that seems to be all too prevalent in the industry?
Rumors
don’t really affect me much. Maybe it’s because I keep my
personal life pretty separate from my work life. Maybe it’s
because I’m not really all that interesting. I’ve never really
been a rule breaker. I’m kind of a girl scout.
What do you
think are the misconceptions about the adult film business?
There are too many to list here. Of course the misconceptions
that are most annoying to me are the ones regarding female porn
performers, I’ve heard that we’re all abused, exploited,
sex-crazed, stupid, lazy, talent-less, unskilled, drugged,
helpless, numb, attention-starved and naïve. I know so many
smart, self-possessed, hard-working, skilled performers, it
blows my mind that all of these stereotypes still exist.
You’re known
for your extreme sex. Don’t you do a lot of bondage work in San
Francisco?
Yes,
I’ve been a fetish and BDSM performer since I was 21. You can
see a lot of my work on the Kink.com website.
Is BD/SM a
lifestyle for you, which turn’s you on?
Yes. I think bondage and power exchange are profoundly sexy. I
think one of the biggest misconceptions about BDSM is that it
has to be complicated, but I think so-called “vanilla” couples
play with power-exchange all the time. In BDSM, like in queer
sex, there are usually explicitly defined top and bottom roles.
In vanilla heterosexual sex, the roles often go undefined, but I
would say usually there are some who are playing the role of
aggressor and someone who is acting in a way that’s more
submissive.
Oftentimes, in vanilla, hetero sex, those roles go unquestioned
and are based on gender. I think one of the most powerful
things about BDSM is that it allows people to define, amplify,
and play with their sexual roles and power dynamics. It allows
people who are used to being in charge the opportunity to be
vulnerable, and it allows people who have less societal power to
play with being explicit powerful, within a safe space and
pre-negotiated time period.
Another powerful element of BDSM is that it doesn’t assume that
a person is actually less powerful simply because they’ve chosen
to play the role of submissive. I’ve found acts of extreme
submission to be the most instructive of my own personal
strength. I’ve found a lot of my own power through submitting
in intense BDSM scenes.
Are you into
golden shower?
Yes. In Kylie Ireland’s Sick Chixxx you can see me and my
girlfriend Annette Schwarz having a lot of fun with piss.
What about fist
fucking?
I’ve been
fisted both vaginally and anally, and I’ve fisted girls
vaginally and anally. I think my best fisting scenes are in
Kylie Ireland’s movies for SexZ pictures. I did a scene for
Kylie with Princess Donna, in which Donna pierced my arms,
thighs, breasts, and labia, and then fisted me while the needles
were still in.
Where is the
strangest place you have had sex?
In a
room full of people and cameras, I’m only half joking when I say
that. The truth is that having sex with a camera in your face
takes some getting used to, it definitely seemed strange in the
beginning. I love the element of being watched, but it can be
difficult or frustrating, trying to cheat to the camera and
still focus on what’s happening physically. You have to learn
to divide your attention.
You seem to
have done it all. What is a fantasy you haven’t done yet?
I
always wanted to do a good, rough gangbang.
Now that you
are doing more and more movies, how does it feel to meet your
fans and know they jerk off to watching you get fucked?
I used to
work in a coffee shop making elaborate espresso drinks for long
lines of tired people. Before that I was a waitress in a
diner. I pretty much think my job now is just an evolution from
my other jobs. I provide a service; I serve people’s desires.
How much longer
will you make films?
I don’t
know. I’m thrilled that this is what I get to do now, and I
feel as if I’ll come back to sex work in different capacities
throughout my life, but there are also other things I’d like to
do.
Like what? What
do you when you’re not doing your sex work?
I
like to read, write, and go to poetry readings and lectures.
I’m taking math and writing classes this summer. I love visiting
art museums and galleries. I like to paint and draw. I do
group art projects with friends when I’m home in San Francisco.
I also love to walk around the city and sit on my jacket in the
park and drink coffee in the Botanical Gardens or watch the
ferry depart from the Embarcadero. Also I like to dance around
in my bedroom and sing along with the radio. My neighbors love
that.
What’s
something your fans don’t know about you that would surprise
them?
That I’m a
total nerd, okay, a lot of people probably know that already.
What’s the
dumbest question you have ever been asked?
My
fifth grade teacher always said, “there are no such thing as a
stupid question”. I used to think she was right, but now I
realize that saying was only true before the invention of
Myspace. In the category of dumb questions, it’s a close tie
between: “UR HOTT WANNA SUK MY COCK?” And the recurring classic:
“WiLL YoU hAvE sEx WiTh mE?”
